Saccharomyces boulardii is a non-pathogenic probiotic yeast, which
exerts a direct constricting effect on many pathogens that has been used
in Europe for decades in treating different types of diarrhea. It is commonly
used in the medical field to prevent diarrhea associated with antibiotic
therapy or nasogastric feeding, as well as for the treatment of acute
diarrhea in adults and children or those associated with Clostridium
difficile and even chronic diarrhea in patients with HIV infection.
